SSW Update - Video: Successful Scrum in Action - A website upgrade for the national
Australia Day Council |
|
|
[the cutting edge ]
G'day Developers!
This month I have a video for you which shows the recent work completed by Gerard Beckerleg
and the guys, who shipped the National Australia Day website. They introduced the client to
prioritising and adding extra
functionality to their existing website by utilising Scrum methodology.
The team worked closely together under the guidance and planning of Gerard as Scrum Master
keeping Bucky Toller highly involved in the project as Product Owner.
I was impressed that the communication was open and constant during the process, keeping the
client abreast of the project and encouraging feedback. As you know I am a fan of Scrum and
I think the video shows the benefits.
I am very proud of Gerard and the boys and their implementation of Scrum. It is great to hear
such positive feedback from the client.
Tell me the good and bad of how Scrum is working for you.

Enterprise MVC Apps

The Model View Controller design pattern has been a proven and effective way of structuring
applications for more than 30 years. In 2007, Microsoft introduced ASP.NET MVC to the world and
since then, the framework has evolved into a mature and powerful way of writing dynamic web sites
and powerful web applications.
ASP.NET MVC provides a great way of structuring your application, ensuring a clean separation of
concerns, easy testability, and ultimate control over markup. It is quickly becoming the go-to
framework for writing .Net web applications.
This 2 part course series will be run at 5 capital cities around Australia.
Enterprise MVC Apps Part I: Going beyond the demos
This course will introduce you to the latest version of ASP.NET MVC version 4. Throughout the course,
attendees will be guided through building a full ASP.NET MVC application from scratch.

Session 1: Looking at Sitefinity 5.1 from a developers view
CMS’s are notoriously nice for content editors (who are just happy with adding pages and editing them
in a HTML or WYSIWYG control), but
nasty for developers trying to add functionality.
Drew Robson will give his take on how Sitefinity 5.1 works from a developer’s point of view, and how
the new MVC support alleviates the
above problem.
Session 2: Tips and Tricks with LINQ Expressions
Although LINQ Expressions have been around for years, as a developer are you using their most
powerful features? Drew will demonstrate how
you can transform your application data pipeline with LINQ Expressions and LINQ to Entities,
resulting in cleaner code and greater reusability.
You would be amazed at the amount of code you save when you see the refactoring take place.
The new VS 2012 will be used, but can be targeted to .NET 3.5, 4.0 or 4.5.
